The Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras is a wonderful celebration of diversity and inclusion. For over 40 years, it’s been held on Sydney’s iconic Oxford St. But for many LGBTIQ+ people living away from the inner-city ‘pride-bubble’, their daily reality is filled with prejudice, harassment and even hatred.
There are actually 123 Oxford Streets around Australia. So, we decided to take a little bit of Mardi Gras to those needed it most, by transforming Oxford Street signs all across the country into fabulous beacons of inclusion.
We built eight unique hero sculptures, placed over thousands of kilometres. Each design had its own inspiration and story.
